Papa John’s brings better ingredients, better pizza experience to iPhone with new online ordering app

Papa John’s International, Inc. today announced the launch of its first ever Apple iPhone application, bringing full menu access and on-the-go ordering direct to the popular platform. The free app is currently live and available for download from the iPhone App Store.

Papa John’s current mobile site has flourished since its 2008 launch. The application, unlike competitors, performs all functions of the Papa John’s website and is expected to significantly grow the company’s already strong mobile presence. The iPhone app allows the customer to order every menu item and offer currently available in the Papa John’s system.

“As the Better Ingredients, Better Pizza provider, offering our loyal customers a better digital experience has always been a company priority and we believe the new Papa John’s iPhone application does that,” said Andrew Varga, Papa John’s Chief Marketing Officer. “This app allows our customers to access all their favorite Papa John’s menu items and order them faster and easier than ever before.”

There are currently more than 50 million Apple iPhone users and, according to the latest International Data Corp report, nearly 11 billion apps were downloaded in 2010, highlighting an on-the-go smartphone demographic that doesn’t always have time to scour through websites for information.

“That is why Papa John’s designed a stand-alone app, providing a full menu selection of Papa John’s pizzas, sides, drinks, desserts and our customers’ favorite extras,” Varga added. “The app also includes our newest and most popular offers, mobile order functionality, account login and even access to Papa Points Loyalty Program to reward our returning customers.”

Earlier this year, Papa John’s introduced the only national online pizza loyalty program, Papa Points, in which customers can earn points towards free pizza with each online purchase. Once enrolled, customers earn one point for every $5 spent online; when customers accumulate 25 points, they receive a free pizza with up to three toppings.

Papa John’s awarded the 2010 Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s Operation Feed Directors Choice Award

Papa John’s was awarded the Directors Choice award by the Mid Ohio Foodbank for their outstanding 2010 Operation Feed campaign. In April, Papa John’s collected over 130,000 cans from the central Ohio community by giving away a FREE pizza for every 10 cans of food or non-perishable food items donated by the central Ohio community.

The Director’s Choice Award recipient is selected by Operation Feed staff members and recognizes outstanding campaign achievements. “When Papa John’s approached us they asked if we thought a free pizza giveaway in exchange for a donation of canned goods would be successful,” said Joan Lloyd, Operation Feed Campaign Director. “Their promotion defined success. In just two weeks they gave away over 10,000 large pizzas — and more importantly they raised nearly 125,000 meals for our neighbors in need.”

The goal was to reach 100,000 cans or non-perishable food items and give away 10,000 pizzas! By the second week of the promotion they exceeded their goal and collected over 130,000 meals for central Ohioans.

“We were looking for a way to give back to the central Ohio community for their support over the past eighteen years,” Charles Burris, Operating Partner for Papa John’s of Central Ohio. “We set a goal of giving away 10,000 pizzas and providing 100,000 meals to Central Ohioans and were humbled by the response and how fast we achieved and exceeded our goal. The Central Ohio community has always been a great partner with Papa John’s and this is the latest example.”

Now in its 29th year, Operation Feed is the annual community-wide food and funds drive coordinated by Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Each spring, businesses, associations, religious organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, and individuals come together to help their neighbors in need. The community’s response to hunger helps to stock the shelves of hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, and emergency shelters in Central and Eastern Ohio. These agencies depend on Operation Feed to provide nutritious, filling food, and 100% of each contribution is used to provide food for those in need.
