Papa John’s awarded the 2010 Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s Operation Feed Directors Choice Award

Papa John’s was awarded the Directors Choice award by the Mid Ohio Foodbank for their outstanding 2010 Operation Feed campaign. In April, Papa John’s collected over 130,000 cans from the central Ohio community by giving away a FREE pizza for every 10 cans of food or non-perishable food items donated by the central Ohio community.

The Director’s Choice Award recipient is selected by Operation Feed staff members and recognizes outstanding campaign achievements. “When Papa John’s approached us they asked if we thought a free pizza giveaway in exchange for a donation of canned goods would be successful,” said Joan Lloyd, Operation Feed Campaign Director. “Their promotion defined success. In just two weeks they gave away over 10,000 large pizzas — and more importantly they raised nearly 125,000 meals for our neighbors in need.”

The goal was to reach 100,000 cans or non-perishable food items and give away 10,000 pizzas! By the second week of the promotion they exceeded their goal and collected over 130,000 meals for central Ohioans.

“We were looking for a way to give back to the central Ohio community for their support over the past eighteen years,” Charles Burris, Operating Partner for Papa John’s of Central Ohio. “We set a goal of giving away 10,000 pizzas and providing 100,000 meals to Central Ohioans and were humbled by the response and how fast we achieved and exceeded our goal. The Central Ohio community has always been a great partner with Papa John’s and this is the latest example.”

Now in its 29th year, Operation Feed is the annual community-wide food and funds drive coordinated by Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Each spring, businesses, associations, religious organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, and individuals come together to help their neighbors in need. The community’s response to hunger helps to stock the shelves of hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, and emergency shelters in Central and Eastern Ohio. These agencies depend on Operation Feed to provide nutritious, filling food, and 100% of each contribution is used to provide food for those in need.
