LOUISVILLE, KY., (October 4, 2016) In June of 2015, Papa John’s International Inc. (NASDAQ: PZZA) announced that it was working to remove 14 unwanted ingredients from its menu. Today, the pizza-making organization marked another Clean Label milestone with the fulfillment of that promise through a letter from Founder, Chairman and CEO “Papa John” Schnatter.

 

Dear Fellow Pizza Lovers –

Last June, I made a promise in an open letter in USA Today to the Moms and Dads of America that we would remove 14 unwanted ingredients from Papa John’s pizzas by the end of 2016. Those ingredients included:

 

Artificial Colors (Synthetic and Certified FD&C)

  1. Synthetic Beta Carotene
  2. Caramel Color
  3. Corn Syrup Solids
  4. Titanium Dioxide (color enhancer)

Artificial Flavors

  1. Vanillin

Flavor Enhancers

  1. Disodium Guanylate
  2. Disodium Inosinate
  3. Hydrolyzed Corn/Soy Protein
  4. Autolyzed Yeast

Sweeteners

  1. HFCS
  2. Corn Syrup

Preservatives

  1. Calcium Propionate
  2. Phosphoric Acids

Other

  1. Maltodextrin – thickener

Today, I’m proud to announce that promise has been fulfilled!  We have completed the full removal of these unwanted ingredients across our entire food menu. We continue to be a brand leader when it comes to clean ingredients by achieving key milestones on our promise of BETTER INGREDIENTS. BETTER PIZZA., which was pledged over 30 years ago. We are incredibly proud of the work we have done, and continue to do, to fulfill this promise.

I started this company with a commitment to providing families with the highest-quality ingredients on our menu. I knew that with better ingredients, we could create better pizzas for everyone to enjoy. We continue to deliver on this promise today.

As part of our Clean Label commitment to you, Papa John’s was the first national pizza delivery chain to announce the removal of: preservatives such as BHA and BHT, flavor enhancer MSG, cellulose and partially hydrogenated oils, and High Fructose Corn Syrup. We also fully transitioned our chicken used in grilled chicken pizza toppings and chicken poppers to be fed on a vegetarian diet and raised without human or animal antibiotics. And as we promised this summer – we’ve completed the transition to cage-free eggs across our entire menu.

But we aren’t done being “Better.” Our Chief Ingredient Officer, Sean Muldoon, and his team continue to explore how we can deliver on our promise of BETTER INGREDIENTS. BETTER PIZZA. This fall, you will hear more from us with new and innovative menu items that remain true to our clean ingredient promise. We continue to prioritize our path of quality and transparency, and work to deliver better ingredients with every single order.

When I opened the doors to Papa John’s in 1984, I had one goal in mind: Better Pizza.  Today, our Clean Label journey remains an essential part of that promise, and our commitment to you, our customer, is as strong as ever. As we look ahead, I am proud to continue creating milestones on that journey and excited to show you what we have in store for the future.

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS, PAPA JOHN’S PIZZA ANNOUNCE MULTIYEAR RENEWAL OF CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP

Name entitlement of the hockey club’s promotion team highlights the elevated partnership

 

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets and the locally-owned franchisee group for Papa John’s Pizza announced today the multiyear renewal and enhancement of its corporate partnership.  Papa John’s Pizza, which holds designation as the official pizza of the Columbus Blue Jackets, has been affiliated with the NHL club since the 2011-12 season.

The newest component of the partnership is name entitlement of the Blue Jackets promotions team.  Members of the newly rebranded “Papa John’s Goal Patrol” are team ambassadors that actively engage fans at games and around the community.  On game nights, they meet and greet guests, solicit fans to participate in various promotions and on-ice contests and distribute prizes.  They are also involved in numerous team and community events on a year-round basis.

“We’re excited to continue our fantastic relationship with the Blue Jackets and we’re eager to get the Papa John’s Goal Patrol out to interact with fans both inside Nationwide Arena and at community events across Ohio,” said Charles Burris, vice president and operating partner of Johncol, Inc., the Columbus franchise group.

(NASDAQ: PZZA) announced that its grilled chicken pizza toppings and chicken poppers would consist of poultry raised without human or animal antibiotics and fed on a vegetarian diet by summer 2016. Today, the world’s third-largest pizza delivery company celebrates the fulfillment of that promise on its clean label journey.

“When Papa John’s opened its doors in 1984, I had one goal in mind: BETTER INGREDIENTS. BETTER PIZZA. Over the years, Papa John’s has solidified its clean label leadership position by becoming the first national pizza delivery chain to announce the removal of the following ingredients across its entire food menu:

  • Preservatives BHA and BHT;
  • Flavor enhancer MSG;
  • Cellulose and partially hydrogenated oils;
  • Artificial flavors and synthetic colors; and
  • High fructose corn syrup.

This fall customers will hear more from the company about the clean ingredient commitments including an effort around cage-free eggs. Papa John’s is committed to converting to cage-free eggs by the end of 2016. These  future changes are just some of the ingredient areas Papa John’s is exploring to deliver on its promise of “better.”

In June, Papa John’s was ranked No. 1 among QSR-pizza brands in customer satisfaction and product quality. The 2016 recognition marks the 15th time out of the previous 17 years that the pizza brand led the pizza industry in overall customer satisfaction. Ranked #1 in customer satisfaction among QSR pizza chains in annual American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) report for 15th time in 17 years

According to the 2016 American Customer  Satisfaction Index (ACSI) that was released today, Papa John’s ranked first among QSR-pizza brands in customer satisfaction and product quality, while also ranking second overall among limited service restaurants. This year’s recognition marks the 15th time out of the previous 17 years that the Louisville- based pizza chain led the pizza industry in overall customer satisfaction.
